| 0:00.0 | Hey everyone, quick update since recording this podcast, I did have a really nasty training crash and so it is in the best interest of my safety to sit out single track six and huge bummer but it's okay I'm still gonna join John after each stage to cover what he learned how we did and we'll see you there. |
| 0:19.0 | Welcome to a special episode of the Astas cycling coach podcast presented by trainer road coach Jonathan Lee we have Ventum bikes I feel trained with us and train roads I've the ad train as well. |
| 0:27.5 | We are going to talk about single track six excited Ivy. |
| 0:31.5 | Yeah. |
| 0:34.5 | Nice. |
| 0:36.5 | I'm trying so hard to be is just scary man like. |
| 0:40.5 | It's intimidating huh? |
| 0:41.5 | Yeah it's hard to train for stuff like this when you're you know working life balancing human you know. |
| 0:52.5 | I just don't know what to expect I haven't done six hard days consecutively in such a long time and it's just that's feels really impossible for me to try to emulate in my life right now between like sure there are. |
| 1:08.5 | You know all these all these stages are probably going to be and we'll talk about this but you know between what do you think like two and a half and like maybe five hours if I have like a slower day I don't know. |
| 1:18.5 | So we're not range and it's not like I wouldn't have three or four hours every afternoon to go train but it's that you know I have to work a full day before that and then come back and work a full day the day after and then go do it again like you can't just emulate a stage race. |
| 1:39.5 | While you're we have other responsibilities it's not like a time thing is this space and energy thing you know. |
| 1:45.5 | Yeah we're going to preview this race right now and that's a good spot to start like on the training side. |
| 1:50.5 | So I think it's really logical in our minds just like we think like oh I'm going to do a race and it's x miles I need to be able to do that in training beforehand and in reality you don't. |
| 2:00.5 | And I think it's the same thing with the six days like we don't have to go and do six days hard beforehand even if we did we wouldn't be able to do it that's just life like you can't like. |
| 2:11.5 | It wouldn't emulate the effort in the event either because I would be so taxed from everything else in my life that that wouldn't even be quality train wouldn't represent the race effort at all we're just be tired and just like digging a hole for myself. |
| 2:27.5 | Yeah so I think actually us not doing the six days beforehand I mean like you know call me a glass half full sort of person here but I think it's actually a sign that we're doing well. |
| 2:38.5 | I think it's a good thing to do that before and I think that would be worrisome so I'm going to run through the stages really quick so then people can get some and that's just like a brief overview six days of racing. |
| 2:49.5 | It's almost all single track bike basically all single track on rugged raw real single track in British Columbia and Alberta. |
| 2:57.5 | It's going to be pretty cool we race in Furny and crow's nest pass in West Brad Creek and in Canmore so two days in Furny two days in crow's nest pass one day in West Brad Creek one in Canmore. |
| 3:10.5 | The stages in terms of what we're going to cover a total of just 149 miles in the race which doesn't sound like a whole lot but then if you start to look at like the elevation gain that's 240 kilometers and we cover when you look at the elevation gain though it steps up quite a lot is 24, |
| 3:26.5 | 1434 feet gained as that's 7,4447 meters gained in those six stages that's significant that's not small and then if you look at like the climbing ratio it's pretty darn like it's pretty darn high we do a lot of it's up or it's down and there's not a whole lot of flat. |
