Summary

We're so often told that our "other half" is out there somewhere, but author Tania Hershman thinks she's a full person by herself. A concept that is absolutely in Hannah's wheelhouse. They chat about the joys of being alone, even at this time of year, the "baffling" world of women who don't marry, and Tania's new book, Go On. If you're alone this Christmas and it doesn't fill you with joy, remember that the boss, Sarah Millican, will be running #JoinIn on Twitter on Christmas Day. You don't need an invitation, just get involved.  Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/standardissuespodcast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. 0:39.7

a woman after my own heart, the author, Tanya Hirschman, to talk about Spinsters, enjoying

0:45.6

single life, and her new book, Go On. Now, if you are one of those people who is alone

0:51.9

Welcome, Tanya, to Standard Issue. It's lovely to have you back. Thank you. Very nice to

1:18.6

be here. Now, this book, I'll actually begin to be going out on Christmas Day.

1:23.0

Oh, my God. Okay. Part of the reason that I wanted to put it out on Christmas Day is because,

1:29.6

you know, Sarah runs the most excellent thing on Twitter. Join in. Yes.

For people who are on their own, they don't have to be single, but they're on their own

1:38.5

at Christmas. And that's great. But lots of people are really happy on their own at Christmas.

1:45.1

And I suspect that you are one of those people, yes. I am. I am one of those people, yes.

1:50.8

It almost feels a bit sinful to admit it. Yeah. It almost seems a bit braggied, I think,

1:56.8

in a way, doesn't it? I think that's part of the problem with being single is do I have

2:01.1

to feel guilty for being glad to be on my own? I sometimes feel I have to tamp down the

2:06.1

glee with which I say, I'm just going to be a dynamite. It's a great start to it.

2:14.8

It's like a balance between trying to look sad and saying, no, I'm on my own or trying
