Siegfried's secret.

Siegfried was a grey goose who lived in a farm near a lake.

He didn't live on the lake and actually preferred to stay in a grassy nest far away from the other geese.

There were so many geese that nobody really noticed he wasn't there,

and Siegfried was more than happy to be left alone.

Every day, the other geese would waddle down to the lake to do what geese do best,

splash in the cool water, nibble at the grass at the bank,

and honk loudly at the ducks and anyone foolish enough to get in the way.

Ah, there was nothing quite like a paddle, thought the geese, as they forage the waters for bugs and

grains. As they basked on the bank after some energetic pecking at seeds, one of the geese, Gertrude,

lazily looked over to the far field, where she could just about

see Siegfried's head bobbing about above the grasses.

He didn't fancy a puddle today then, said Janine, Gertrude's sister.

Gertrude narrowed her eyes thoughtfully.

No, he had interesting bugs to peck at, apparently.

There isn't a single bug of interest in that field.

He was feeling too tired yesterday.

Wolfgang, another goose, waddled over.

And the day before, he wanted to look at some very interesting crisp packets that have been

dropped by some haikers.

I mean, is that even a thing? Are we geese even remotely interested in Chris packets?
