After more than a decade as a lawyer, Julie DeCaro thought she had landed a dream job as a sports radio host.

But on the job, she experienced a toxic work environment, one where she constantly had to prove herself as a woman commenting on sports.

In her book sideline, sports, culture,

and being a woman in America, DeCarro lays bare the treatment of women both on and off the sports field, from sexism to internet trolls to pervasive misogyny. There's a segment of people

who want to watch sports and not think about any of this stuff. And they are angry that you are

bringing it up and making them think about it when they view sports as an escape.

DeCaro, who's currently a senior editor at the sports news site Deadspin, joins us next on Forum to talk about her book and much more after this news.
