This gambit that was done last night is a joke.

House Speaker Mike Johnson rejected a bill that the Senate passed overnight to partially fund the Department of Homeland Security and says President Donald Trump supports his reasoning.

The reason that we can't accept this ridiculousness, okay, is because we're not going to risk

not funding the agencies that keep the American people safe.

House Republicans say they will instead pass their own bill that fully funds DHS for eight weeks.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warned that bill would be, quote, dead on arrival.

The Senate bill didn't include immigration reforms Democrats pushed for, nor funding for ICE.

Despite the shutdown, Trump has ordered DHS to pay TSA employees, but has remained vague about

where the money will come from.

Many TSA workers struggle to pay for food, housing, gas, childcare, and other necessities.

DHS says workers should start getting paid as early as Monday.
