Recently, an alarming article published in the Wall Street Journal titled "The Pentagon Disinformation That Fueled America’s UFO Mythology" revealed that the “U.S. military fabricated evidence of alien technology and allowed rumors to fester to cover up real secret-weapons programs.” This is reminiscent of disinformation campaigns discussed in Mark Pilkington's book "Mirage Men." The book eventually became a documentary about the dark relationship between the military and earnest UFO investigators. It is true that sometimes the military can play people as suckers and that they count on useful idiots to spread disinformation at UFO gatherings.
