I just want to let you know that I never thought I would be in a position that I am tonight.

To deliver some information, I mean, I feel like Orson Wells.

I do because of what we're talking about tonight.

And just thinking about it puts a chill down my spine.

Now, back in 1938, October of 1938, Orson Wells

broadcasts of the War of the Worlds stunned listeners with its simulated live news format

convincing many in the United States and at Grover's Mill, New Jersey, that it was under siege.

And it was a dramatic intersection of fiction and public panic.

And it later prompted a Pentagon investigation.

Pentagon Director, Air Force Intelligence Investigation,

Lieutenant Edward J. Repelt, who later headed up Blue Book, he had this task.

He said he wanted it.

They wanted him to investigate the psychological and national security fallout from the

War of the World's broadcast.

The panic was said to be, well, the panic that's said to happen was exaggerated.

A lot of it was exaggerated.

Morrison Wells and his players were reportedly told that before the broadcast had even ended.
