Hello and welcome to the Political Party. This edition featuring Labour MP Clive Lewis.

Clive has a fascinating live story having served in Afghanistan, having worked at the BBC,

been the previous Labour government, so one of the national black role models and is now a Labour MP.

And has risen to politics very quickly, only elected in 2015.

He's made himself one of the most visible members of the Corbyn era.

Now this interview happened just a few days after Clive had been in the news

for using language that he himself accepted was an appropriate and apologised for at the Labour Party conference.

I'm sure you have seen the story.

We talk about it at length in the context of course of another Labour MP who's in trouble for comments they made

before they were a member of Parliament, Jared Amara.

So the context of this interview really pertinent to a lot of the issues of the time about offence,

about the tone of public debate, about the sort of things we should and shouldn't apologise for

and being mindful of the language we use.

And Clive gives a fascinating insight into what it's like to be a member of Parliament in this era,

his take on his own sort of brush with this type of news,

and a context really to it all.

It's a fascinating interview and he's led really quite a remarkable life and talks in a very interesting manner about serving in a wall that in hindsight perhaps he

I'm not even sure I would say he fully disagrees with but certainly British foreign policy is something that as a man of the left he's had an issue with.

We cover so many things including the internal tensions in the Labour Party, Brexit, Article 50, it's all in there, it's wide-ranging and Clive is fascinating, illuminating.

And you can see how he's managed to make an effort himself very quickly.

I was obviously very grateful that he did it, I know that other politicians in a similar circumstance would have chosen not to do the interview.

So I was very grateful that he honored the booking and as a result the night was at that extra bit of electricity.
