Summary

Gregg Hurwitz is the Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author of the Orphan X series as well as writing for DC and Marvel on comics like Batman: The Dark Knight and Wolverine. He also offers a fascinating psychological angle on politics, and helps Democrat candidates across America to understand how to reach out not just to Trump voters but to the different wings of their own movement. This is a Political Party episode like no other, a timely reminder of the importance of understanding individuals, an examination the psychological elements of politics and voting as well as answering the biggest question in global politics: is Batman a Democrat or a Republican? Hello and welcome to the Political Party podcast and a guest with a difference today, which

0:14.2

is always great to get guests from different fields about comedians on in the past, as

0:18.5

well as politicians and advisors. But today is really different. Greg Herbert, so many

0:24.5

of you will know as a best-selling author. You cannot go through a bookshop without seeing

0:28.4

his books in there. I just read his latest one into the fire on Holodane. It's absolutely

0:32.5

superb. Particularly as someone who usually just reads political biographies and books

0:38.2

about political theory, to read a proper blockbuster book. He's a real treat. And he's in Britain

0:45.7

talking about his book, but what's fascinating about Greg is as well as being a best-selling

0:50.6

author. And this is, he doesn't just do books. He writes for Marvel and DC. He's done Batman,

Wolverine, an incredible individual. He also helps out the Democrat Party, particularly in

1:01.6

states that Republicans hold. So this is just, this is a guy who is understand stories,

1:08.2

understand stories, how to tell a story, but also understands on a psychological level,

1:13.5

why people behave in particular ways, how to appeal to people from the opposite side

1:18.1

of the spectrum, and including the opposite side of the spectrum within your own party

1:22.0

and within your own tribe. So this is just, there are times as well when you meet someone

1:27.1

you like, the amount of stuff they know is so intimidating. It's just fantastic. So it's

1:34.0

just a complete, it's a different type of political discussion. And it's something that I

1:37.6

always have to remind myself, politics isn't just about, oh, how do we solve intergenerational

1:42.6

unfairness? And how does the Labour Party repair itself and left and right in our relationship

1:47.0

with the state? It's about values, it's about psychology. And these all these different,

1:51.3

dubberamatters and last week, you know, when you get that insight into what the public

1:55.1

are thinking through someone who's so tuned in with Greg, this is about the psychology
