There's new evidence that they can prevent autoimmune disorders.

Joe Grayden. Many health professionals are skeptical about the value of dietary supplements.

Both Vitamin D and Fish Oil have a checkered history for disease prevention. A large double blind

placebo controlled trial called vital produced some surprising results.

There are no medicines that prevent autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus,

but omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D were able to do that.

Omega-3s. In the people's pharmacy health headlines, the mysterious outbreak of hepatitis in young children keeps getting larger.

At the beginning of May, the WHO was aware of over 200 cases in 20 countries around the world.

The first cases were reported in Alabama in the fall of 2021. Now though cases have shown up throughout Europe as

well as the US, Japan and Israel. A number of children have required liver transplants

and at least one has died.

Infectious disease experts are still searching for the cause.

They've ruled out hepatitis viruses A, B, C, D, and E. Instead, they're focusing on an endovirus. Parents should be alert

for symptoms such as fatigue, fever, joint pain, stomach ache, loss of appetite, and yellowing of the eyes or skin.

Last year, U.S. spending on pharmaceuticals topped $400 billion.
