According to the FDA, some of these thermometers display temperatures that are inaccurate and lower than actual body temperatures.

This might cause the user or caregiver to underestimate the severity of an infection and delay seeking appropriate care.

This could be especially serious for children who have a very high fever that might lead to seizures or for people with compromised immune systems such as cancer patients.
