We take our text on a Sunday morning like this from our upcoming Wednesday study.

We'll see the whole context of this story.

And there's a little verse that kind of catches the attention that I think is kind of interesting.

And I would never use this as a proof text or anything like that about, you know, something we should do or think.

But to me, this little sentence sparks a discussion that really is relevant today

and what's going on in the world.

And I think it might be worth our consideration.

It's just the little verse here, chapter five, pardon me, chapter seven, verse five.

It says this, Luke seven, verse five. five it says for he loveth our nation

and he hath built us a synagogue this is something we learn in the gospel of luke that's not in

matthew chapter eight we we studied several months back when we were in the gospel of matthew the

story of the

centurion, you know, the centurion, he's a Roman soldier. Did the Jews like the Roman soldiers?

No. Why? Well, they'd been under the iron fist of Rome for a long time. In fact, they will be

under the iron fist of Rome for a long time. The Romans were there, if you count the Byzantine era,

the Romans were in charge of that region of Israel and Judea for 666 years.

Kind of interesting number, but that's how many years they were over that region.

So it was a long, oppressive time, you know.

And the Jews, there was Jews that

hated the Romans so bad. There was a group called the zealots. And they were sort of the guys that

said, let's try to, you know, off the Romans, you know, and, you know, they tried to get them

whenever they could. But it was too small to really make a dent in the Roman
