Summary

“Founding friend” David French returns to tackle the tough question that every Republican of good faith should be asking. They explain why this particular question of “Should I stay or should I go?” is highly relevant for everyone, regardless of political affiliation. The conversation explores the ways that political calculations inescapably are spiritual in nature, and the two have a fun time unpacking this reality via the “pirate ship” metaphor. Listeners will especially be helped by how David and Curtis explain the three main options - Leave, Stand, or Hide - facing anyone who feels caught in a deeply dysfunctional institution.

love that founding friend. That's going to be on your epitaph. I appreciate that. Well, I am always

excited to welcome founding friend, David French back. But I am especially excited today because

1:01.7

for today's topic, I literally cannot think of anybody else I would rather have this discussion

1:07.6

with on this topic. Should I stay or should I go the GOP version? Now, David, I could not get the

1:18.1

rights to the song. Should I stay or should I go the from the clash? Stranger things season two

1:26.0

apparently had snapped up the rights to that song. But I think it's fair to say that we own the concept

1:32.6

at least when it's applied into the Christian world. Because David, remember, we had this conversation

1:37.9

before about should I stay or should I go? And that conversation was really done with people

1:45.2

thinking about should I stay or should I go the the church, especially the evangelical church,

1:51.1

right? And what I want to set up is this version for the GOP for those who are wrestling with

1:57.8

this question as Republicans. And here's why this question came up for me, David. So I was at a

2:04.7

recent gathering. This is the second of two two gatherings now we've had organized by the Johns

2:09.9

Hopkins University and the R Street Institute. The title of this two set convenings was a conservative

agenda to protect democracy, a conservative agenda to protect democracy. The participants were

2:22.7

all what you would call classic conservatives and pro liberal democracy, lowercase L liberal

2:28.8

democracy. Many of them actually were Christians. And quite a few of those were good faithless

senators. So that was really fun. Oh, that's fantastic. Yeah, they were and all most of them all
