We had such a great discussion that I didn't even cover half of what I wanted to cover with him. So here we are again. He wrote the book that is the tour de force on this subject. It's called the Bible
0:23.4	and homosexual practice texts and hermeneutics. He's also working on a new book more for the
0:28.0	average person. This, the Bible and homosexual practice is an academic work that goes into
0:35.1	every possible argument and counterarg argument. It's a masterpiece.
0:39.7	So if you really want to get into this, if you really want to know the truth, that's the book
0:43.4	to get. Dr. Gagnon in the last podcast that we had together. And by the way, Dr. Gagnon has his
0:48.8	doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary, which you would think would make him look at the biblical text in a different way and try and come up with loopholes for same-sex behavior. But you don't, Dr. Gagnon. Why is that? How did you come out of a liberal seminary and yet you're a conservative? How did that happen?
1:06.3	Well, that's a good question, but I think it's just because, well, I'm convinced that Jesus is Lord,
1:12.0	and the biblical witness is entirely clear on the matter, including affirmed by Jesus himself.
1:18.1	So for me to say that what Jesus identified is the very foundation of sexual relationships,
1:25.3	male and female, he made them.
1:31.0	And for this reason, a man may become joined to a woman and two become one flesh.
1:36.8	We talked about last time the moral logic of that requires a male-female prerequisite as a basis for all other standards of sexual ethics.
1:42.0	So if I'm going to say that what Jesus thought was foundational
1:45.0	for sexual ethics is flatly wrong, pulled a rug out completely from that foundation,
1:51.0	I don't know in what sense I could possibly continue to call Jesus Lord of my life. In any
1:57.9	denomination that veers from that foundational understanding of sexual ethics has whether
2:03.7	or not they know it rejected the lordship of Christ so that that denomination ceases to be,
2:09.3	in any sense, a meaningful representation of Christ to the world. Yeah, we think we're more
2:15.0	compassionate and more loving than Jesus. Yeah.
2:17.9	Which, of course, is ridiculous.
2:20.7	Unfortunately, many people don't catch the irony of that.
