Summary

A quick heads-up: this is a bonus episode where we're just having some fun. We also say 'like' a lot. We're, like, sorry... but not really. Today we're discussing the first episode from HBO Max's "Neighbors". Welcome to the sun-drenched beaches of Santa Rosa, Florida, where the battle for the shoreline is raging. Meet the “Shoreline Defenders,” a group of residents who believe the beach is for everyone, and the homeowners who will do anything to keep their slice of paradise private. Tensions boil over as one man, armed with a GoPro and the “Shoreline Defender” app, decides to take on the local beach patrol, leading to a series of confrontations that are as bizarre as they are hilarious. From heated arguments with a self-appointed beach cop to a tense sit-down at a local restaurant, this is a story about just how seriously people take their sand. Then, we head to the wide-open spaces of Montana, where a man’s dream of a quiet country life is shattered by a dispute with his neighbor. What starts as a disagreement over a fence and a road quickly escalates into a full-blown feud involving Zoom court, a failed mediation, and a whole lot of passive-aggressive staring. But there’s a twist: one of these neighbors is a TikTok star known as “The Bearded Bard,” with over two million followers. When the drama spills over onto social media, things get even more complicated. It’s a classic tale of country versus city, with a surprising connection that proves these two might have more in common than they think. Hi, Melissa.

0:36.6

Hi, Mandy, How are you?

0:37.8

I'm doing well. I'm excited to be here on a Wednesday, which is unusual for us and for our listeners to be here.

0:46.6

Well, unless you are a subscriber, then you don't normally hear from us on Wednesdays. But this week, we are here for you.

0:52.7

And I'm excited. We are here for you. And kind of for ourselves.

This is kind of selfish. Yeah. We just, we've been doing it's Florida comma man shows on Patreon and Apple

anything about A24 films or anything with A24, you know it's always pretty good. And so this new show is out

on Max and it's called Neighbors and it's with A24. It's a reality show about my worst nightmare.

1:27.2

Having a terrible neighbor. Oh, yes.

1:29.3

A hundred percent. Actually, it's so funny because my husband, like, that's one of his big things.

1:35.1

And we've, by the way, lived in the same house for like over 12 years now. And so it has never been

1:40.3

an issue where I live. Like, we don't really have neighbors. But that's always like like, a thing that my husband says anytime I talk about wanting to move or, or like, look for a different house anywhere, his first thing. The first thing that he always is concerned about is he doesn't want to be close to people. He doesn't want to live by where we have neighbors. He just, he only want, he would rather stay in our house because we don't have neighbors, despite any other reasons that there might be to relocate. He's not wrong. Yeah. He's not wrong. But sometimes distance doesn't even matter as it happens in one of our stories. But yeah, that's to me like the scariest thing. I had great neighbors at the last place we lived at and one of them died. And so I was like, crap, who's going to move in?

2:17.8

And now I have an older neighbor across from me and I'm like, please stay alive forever because he's nice. He helped me change my tire one time. But other than that, I don't want to talk to them, but I also don't want them to hate me. And these people don't give flying anything. They don't care if their neighbors hate them. And I can't live in this kind of, I don't know, stress. I just can't do it.

2:36.5

That's why they were selected to be on. anything. They don't care if their neighbors hate them. And I can't live in this kind of, I don't know, stress. I just can't do it.
