Summary

A powerful force in the mindfulness movement and in mutual aid, our special guest is Shelly Tygielski. She is the author of Sit Down to Rise Up and founder of the global grassroots organization, Pandemic of Love. A trauma-mindfulness teacher and a Garrison Institute Fellow, she teaches self-care and resilience to organizations around the world. Her work has been featured on CNN Heroes, The Kelly Clarkson Show, CBS This Morning, the New York Times, andthe Washington Post. Lee and Shelly have a heartfelt conversation about finding gifts in the dark moments and what can emerge when we come from a place of love and empathy. Her belief that one person can make a difference compelled her to create Pandemic of Love in March 2020, and she shares what she has experienced when 'love finds a way'. We learn more about her being kidnapped as a child, losing her vision, and how it all plays a part in who Shelly is as a teacher of radical self-care and what led her to writing her first book. Speaking to Shelley for today's show was many things for me, and I'm sure it will be for you, but one thing

0:55.8

that Shelley reminds me of is that anyone who is a powerhouse in our world has usually

1:02.9

gone through challenging or difficult experiences in order to get there.

1:08.1

And yet a powerhouse is really what Shelley is, a powerful heart, a powerful mind,

1:13.6

and a powerful organizer. And one of the most incredible things that Shelley did last year was she

1:19.5

began a movement called Pandemic of Love. It started in March of 2022 and 2020 and very quickly spread across the globe.

1:29.3

So getting to sit and talk to Shelley about the pandemic of love and the book that she has just released called Sit Down to Rise Up

1:37.3

was a real treat inside the heart and the mind of somebody who has impacted the world in incredible ways and like the rest of us is

living the human experience. Please enjoy this episode with Shelley Tagalski.

Shelley, thank you so much for being here today. It means a lot because, I mean, for a couple of

2:08.5

different reasons. Number one, I love this book that you've created, but more than that perhaps,

2:13.6

and I know the book came on the back of that. I just love that in March 2020,

2:19.3

when we were going into, in many ways, a pandemic of fear, you created a movement called

2:24.6

Pandemic of Love. So I salute you for that and thank you for being here today to talk about
