Summary
The sinking of the USS Indianapolis on July 30, 1945, is still the U.S. Navy's greatest loss of life at sea. Roughly 300 men went down with the ship and the other 900 were left to survive adrift in the open, shark infested, Philippine Sea for the next five agonizing days. Only 317 of those men would survive, against all odds- dehydration, starvation, exhaustion, delirium and of course... sharks.
