Our guest today is Jolene Filo. Jolene, she's the author of five resource books for the special needs community and co-authored Every Child Welcome, a ministry handbook for including kids with special needs.

How are you? I am fine. Thank you so much for having me. Jolene, my first question is, I want you to

take me back to May 23rd, 19882 when your son was born. Can you give me the euphoria, the feeling,

and then the after effects? Sure. Our son was born shortly after midnight on May 23rd, 1982, which means I'm soon going to be

the parent of a 40-year-old, which I still can't wrap my head around.

He had a normal birth.

In fact, it was a very easy labor and delivery. He was small for his age.

And in the middle of the night, my husband started coming back to my room and saying,

you know what? They're around Allen's little Isolate. And now they've raised his bed,

you know, so his head is elevated.

And about 7.30 in the morning, the doctor came in and sat down next to me.

And that is never a good sign when the doctor sits down next to you in the hospital and said that Alan was having trouble breathing.

They wanted to send him to Rapid City.
