Romans chapter 8, verses 28 through 30.

And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are

called according to his purpose.

For those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image

of his son in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined,

he also called, and those whom he called, he also justified. And those whom he justified,

he also glorified. There's so much here. And I feel like maybe more

than any other verse on this podcast, I refer to Romans 828 as we're praying, this promise that for those

who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according

to his purpose.

And we just need to remember what good means here, what his purpose is here.

That verse 29 goes on to describe his purpose to conform us to the image of his son.

So God's good purpose in our lives that He works everything together for is us becoming more like Jesus,

us being conformed to His image, knowing that it's in Jesus that we have life, that this is

eternal life, to know and be with and become like Jesus.

This is life.

And if that's life, then God is saying in this passage, I'm working everything together

toward that end, toward your good, which may involve

really hard things in our lives. This is where I think about one of my favorite quotes from

Elizabeth Elliott, who lost her first husband, Jim Elliott, as a missionary, going to spread the

gospel among unreached tribe, and he was killed by those tribesmen
