Katie Kirk was diagnosed with breast cancer over the summer and then underwent surgery

and radiation treatments that just finished this week.

She shared a diagnosis for the first time in a recently published essay and she said she

learned of the cancer after a mammogram in June and that she actually had missed a routine

screening that should have taken place about eight months into the pandemic.

She goes, I was six months late this time, I should have to think what might have happened

if I had put it off any longer.

So she wrote encouraging people to attend their own screenings in schedule, additional tests

when needed.

On her Instagram, she goes every two minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in

the US on June 21st.

I became one of them.

And she's had, I mean, cancer has affected her life significantly.

Her husband passed away from cancer and her sister passed away from cancer.

So I mean, this just, and she's always been an advocate for doing the necessary work

for like the preventative care to catch it as early as possible.
