Howdy, welcome to the breakaway podcast. My name is Brent, and I'm sitting here with Rachel Thweet. Rachel is ahead of our strategic partnerships, and she is someone who has done a lot of

research on the Shalom Project this year. This right here, what you're listening to, is our second

update for our Shalom project, the current project that we're in. And Rachel, why don't you

give us a little snapshot if this is someone's first time to hear about Shalom. Yeah, so Shalom is a project

where we really mobilize students towards not the absence of conflict, but the presence of

flourishing. And so this year, what we've done is focused on where does God and scripture

calls people to lean in and to care for people. And so we couldn't ignore James 127 this year.

And that's what we focused on is helping the orphan in their distress.

And the part that we love about this project is that we do work with college students,

but this verse doesn't have a caveat to say, well, when you have a family and you're married, then care for the orphan.

We love this first because it's, everyone is called to care for the orphan and lean in.

And so this year, our project is to help 25 kids into a loving home, 25 children who need

to be adopted. And the way we want to do that is by mitigating the financial barrier.

And so adoption costs up to $40,000, which is hard to imagine and obviously difficult for a lot of people to be able to raise that money on their own.

And so we want to help give $5,000 adoption aid grants to 25 families to help close the funding to finalize their adoptions.

And so if you're doing the math, that puts us at a total goal of $125,000.

And I love it that we are in the middle of this project.

We are already getting to give several adoption aid grants, which you'll just have to stay tuned
