Once by a time there were two sisters who loved each other dear.

For long hours they would play in the fields behind their farm, but as soon as the copper of sunset

coloured skies, their father would call for them to return to the house and to the lights.

For if they did not, then they would be carried away by the dark people.

Their stepmother, a vain loveless woman, would watch them each day from the window and despair

at the lump between the two girls, for it was a love she would never know herself.

One evening their father called to his wife and told her to call the girls for the hours growing late and soon the dark people

would come out and it was well known that they would spirit away the straying children.
