Summary

Join me on a lecture I gave to some surgeons (some of my favorite people BTW). I discuss - sexual normative roles and how that affects our personal sex lives. We were taught “sex negative” education – don’t get pregnancy or infections, save it for marriage What happens when the novelty of sex wears off Is desire a circumstance, a feeling, a result? Where do we put it in a coaching model. Desire and sex for women. What do I mean by crappy sex? Sex, surgery and mindfulness Normalizing responsive desire Sleep and a happy sex life/drive What is responsive desire? How alcohol works with the brain to hurt/help our sex drive Why older people have great sex Why our thoughts about our spouse helps or hurts our sex life – and our thoughts are completely under our control. Do you desire what you already have? Why textbooks dedicate way more space to male sexual organs than female. Anatomy lesson Why PIV sex doesn’t work for female orgasms Are you “should-ing” all over your sex life? We finish this episode with some coaching on our sex life – we use the “model” from The Life Coach School. If you want a good sex life you can’t be passive about it. Hey team, thanks for joining me today. Today I'm going to share a lecture I did. I do some

0:05.6

private coaching and I was coaching some female surgeons about sex and sex life. And if you think

0:10.8

that doctors and surgeons got taught this stuff in med school, you are sorely giving us in our

0:15.8

schools way more credit than we deserve because I didn't learn this in med school. I didn't

0:19.8

learn this in urology residency. I've learned all of this in the last couple of years when I decided to deep

0:25.3

dive into female sexual health and response and the brain and the psychology and how it all

0:30.5

works. So that's what we're going to do today. We're going to talk about sexual normative roles and

0:34.3

how that affects our personal sex lives. What do I mean when I talk about

0:38.1

crappy sex? I use analogies of sex and surgery and being mindful and, you know, doing things

0:44.8

routinely versus paying attention. I go into a little bit of data of why older people can have

0:49.6

great sex. And we talk about desire and desiring what we already have. So if those topics interest you

0:55.7

and more, take a listen to this lecture I gave and I hope you guys enjoy it. Follow me on

Welcome to You Are Not Broken, the only podcast that combines science, medicine, and psychology to re-educate your brain and help you live your best love life. And I'm your host,

Ford certified female urologist, Dr. Casperson.

1:28.3

Sex is a loaded word. Facebook hates it.

1:30.8

I just got my post kicked off because of typing in a three-letter word that began with

1:34.6

SEX.

1:36.6

So the cool thing about sex is we get to be in complete control of our sex life when we

1:43.3

decide and learn that we want to be and get to be.

1:46.3

I think so many women, as far as sexuality goes, take a very passive seat to it.
