I always looked forward to grass day. We lived in a rancher, but we had a half acre. I would cut that

grass at least once a week, and it was good for about five, six thousand steps.

And so lawn day was always one of the weekly highlights because I knew that I would get more steps because I had to cut the grass.

So if you're out doing some yard work, cutting grass, pulling weeds, you're probably finding those days a few more steps on your step tracker.

I want to talk today about walking and the different reasons that we walk.

I like to call it fitness hiding and plain sight because we use walking for so many other things

that sometimes we don't even think of it as a fitness activity. We think, okay, I'm going to begin

pursuing exercise. What am I going to do? Well, I could run. I could go to the gym. Hello,

you could walk. But we tend not to think of it. And I'm actually surprised by how many people

don't think of walking as exercise for a variety of reasons. Talked about that before. Not going to

talk about that now. But I think one of the reasons we tend not to think of it as exercise is because we use it for so many other

things. So let's run through seven different ways that we use walking. Number one, since we've

already mentioned it, exercise. Walking is a powerful, great form of exercise. It's a great way to begin fitness,

and quite frankly, in my opinion, it's the fitness activity that is the most sustainable.
