Summary

Food forests take companion planting to a whole new level. Not only does this system of plants support itself, the perennials in a food forest provide for wildlife, great and small. Here she talks us through the process of building one from the ground up.  Epic Gardening Shop Homepage: https://growepic.co/4bHNRsr Botanical Interests Shop Homepage: https://growepic.co/42IFSHE Book Collection Page: https://growepic.co/42Mfrkl EG Homesteading Book: https://growepic.co/4bIL16x Connect With Angela Ferraro-Fanning: Angela Ferraro-Fanning is a Cornell University certified permaculturist and homesteader in central New Jersey. Cornell University certified permaculturist, and homesteader in Central New Jersey.

0:21.7

But Angela, obviously, you have quite an extensive food

0:35.4

forest and maybe we start with a quick definition on that, but I'm really curious like the

0:40.1

0:42.6

So I have the garden proper, right?

0:45.4

Which is a fenced in space for growing all of the tender annuals

soil they hold carbon, their root systems increase all that microbial

1:14.9

activity, the mycorrhiza that's in there and this big web we've got going on

1:18.2

that benefits plants. It provides a shelter and a sanctuary to not only birds, but I have more praying mantis now than I've ever seen in my life, which is essentially an army of good bugs that are going to help me eradicate the bad ones.

1:33.6

So prenials do all of these really great things.

1:35.7

And when you think about layering edible perets,
