Welcome to the consult. I'm Julia Cowley. I'm a retired FBI profiler. And I have with me my colleagues who are also former FBI profilers, and I will let them introduce themselves.

And we all work together at the Behavioral Analysis Unit for several years.

So I don't know when this episode is going to drop, but as we're recording,

it's just been over about a week since a suspect was arrested for three murders in the case that's known as the Long Island serial killer case.

So these victims were found along a 10-mile stretch of Gilgo Beach.

And there are several more victims that were also located out there.

I think it's safe to assume that he is likely to be charged with at least one more homicide.

It does remain to be seen what's going to happen with the investigation.

Like all of you, we are watching this all unfold.

I don't think anything's going to surprise us either way of how this investigation turns out.

One thing I'd like to say is a lot of people expressed surprise over how normal

this suspect appeared to be.

But based on like our preliminary assessment very early on, we weren't really surprised with the suspect that was arrested.

So anyway, kind of based on this recent and significant development in these events in this case, I thought it would be a good idea to do an episode on serial murder.

And when we talk about serial murder, I'm going to specify, we're talking about so the FBI's

definition, which is three or more victims.

There's a cooling off period between those victims. And I'm going to narrow it down
