The foiled assassination attempt on Donald Trump on Sunday has introduced a new complication into talks about funding the government.

Discussions about a potential plus-up for the Secret Service. Yesterday, a swath of

Democrats from Chuck Schumer on down said they support more money for the agency that protects

presidents and past presidents. But here's the issue. A lot of Republicans don't think money is the

problem. Speaker Mike Johnson called for more personnel to be shifted to protect Trump on Fox News

yesterday, but he hasn't weighed in on

whether he thinks more money is the answer. Across the rotunda, however, another Johnson did,

Senator Ron Johnson, who said more Doe isn't going to fix the problem. More assassination attempt

fallout news today. The alleged gunman, Ryan Ruth, fired no shots and never had a line of sight

to Trump before he was

apprehended. At least, that's according to the Secret Service. Local law enforcement released

body cam videos yesterday of the moment Ruth was arrested. Though Trump was unharmed this weekend,

experts tell our colleague Betsy Woodruff Swan that the incident was actually another security

failure. Biden and Trump did have a call yesterday about bolstering the former president's security. Meanwhile, reporters are starting to dig into Ruth's history as well as the history of protecting Trump's golf resorts. Earlier in Trump's presidency, officials warned him about the safety of his golf courses, which have long worried the Secret Service and other security agencies. That's according to Washington Post,

Carolina, Josh Dossi, and Isaac Stanley Becker. Those vulnerabilities left Trump open to unstable people like Ruth, who were just now learning were the subject of a tip to the FBI in

2019. We're also learning from new reports that he was just trusted by other foreign fighters

in Ukraine, was again flagged to U.S. authorities in 2020,

and even wrote a book that encouraged Iran to kill Trump.

Politically, the fallout from the incident could actually offer Trump another momentum reset

after, frankly, a very bad debate week.
