0:00.0	Hi friends I'm Annie F Downs. Let's read the Gospels. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament in the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These are the stories of Jesus Christ's life on earth, the friendships, the
0:13.8	sacrifices, the meals, the miracles. So here is how it works. I'll read three
0:18.3	chapters to you. You can listen or read along in your own Bible or online and then I'll pray and that's it. So today is
0:25.2	day 14 and I'll be reading Luke chapters 19 through 21 from the new living
0:30.4	translation and if you're with us in the let's read the gospel's guided
0:34.0	journal we are on page 97. Luke 19 Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town. There was a man there
0:46.7	named Zakias. He was the chief tax collector in the region and he had become very rich.
0:51.8	He tried to get a look at Jesus but he was too short to see over the
0:55.3	crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sick of more fig tree beside the road for Jesus was going to pass that way.
1:01.9	When Jesus came by he looked up at Zachius and called him by
1:04.9	name Zachius he said quick come down I must be a guest in your home today
1:09.6	Zachius quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy, but the people were displeased.
1:17.0	He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner, they grumbled.
1:21.0	Meanwhile, Zikea stood before the Lord and said I will give half my wealth to the poor
1:26.0	Lord and if I've cheated people on their taxes I will give them back four times as much.
1:31.2	Jesus responded. Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown
1:36.0	himself to be a true son of Abraham, for the son of man came to seek and save those who
1:40.6	are lost. The crowd was listening to everything Jesus said and because he was
1:45.5	nearing Jerusalem he told them a story to correct the impression that the kingdom of God
1:49.7	would begin right away. He said a noble man was called away to a distant empire to be
1:55.3	crowned king and then return. Before he left, he called together ten of his
2:00.0	servants and divided among them ten pounds of silver saying invest this for me
