Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Let's call to mind all those that we've promised to pray for.

Now today we learn about and reflect upon the meaning of personal integrity and on the proper relationship between the church and the state, for these two are interrelated.

Now personal integrity means that one set of moral principles

applies to every area of my life. We don't think or act by one set of rules at home and

then a different contradictory set of ideals at work and another at play. You can't have one set of

beliefs in one area and a contradictory set in another area of life. This is really what is expected of us with the false idea of a separation of

church and state. It expects a person to have one set of beliefs privately and a different said publicly and it results in living a double life.

Now many people including Catholics are under the false illusion.

I guess that's what an illusion is, something that's false,

that the idea of separation of church and state is part of our heritage.

It's not. It wasn't in any of the

founding documents or ideas in which our country was first established. Besides that,

it's not even livable because as I said, it causes one to live a double life.

Now this false idea of the separation of church and state became prominent in the 20th century when the Supreme Court

used it to attack religion in America.

Again this false idea was never part of who we are which is good because this idea is not livable.

If the separation of what you believe and how you live, i.e. the separation of church and state were to be put into practice consistently,

then every person would have to live a double life.
