Now for years the left has made a very straightforward simple case

that the tories are essentially the political arm of the rich

that they exist to champion the interests of the wealthy,

those millionaires, those billionaires who throw huge amounts of cash at them,

their donors, not out of the goodwill or generosity of their sweet sweethearts

but because they know it's an investment that they'll get something back for their money

because the tories will enact policies that will enrich them

and make them even better off than they already are.

Now it's very welcome, given we've been making this case for a long time,

to hear a senior conservative confirm that this is the case.
