Summary

Sending Your Child to College- Hearing Jesus in Our Grief – BONUS    Have you sent a child to college recently? Or perhaps it was kindergarten, the military, or even a new apartment. The feelings of grief left behind are sometimes hard to deal with. Today in this bonus episode, we talk through some ways to deal with that grief and allow the Holy Spirit to meet you in that place. I pray this episode blesses you.   Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.   Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God’s voice or if it’s really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Do you struggle to feel confident in your relationship with God and what He says in his word? Do you sometimes feel stagnant or like you hit a wall in your spiritual life?   Hey, I’m your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I, too, was doubting God’s voice in my own life. I, too, felt insecure about the things I thought God might be calling me to do. I wanted to make a difference in the world and be obedient to what God was calling me to do, but I wasn’t quite sure how to figure out what exactly that was. I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Or that I wasn’t qualified to do the things I thought He might be telling me to do.   The answer for me was found in the pages of the Bible, as I learned how to understand what it was actually saying. If you are ready to grow in your faith and to step confidently into the calling God has for you, then join me as we dig deep into God’s word so you can learn to live out your faith in your everyday life.   Friend, you are loved, you are cherished, and you are His.   The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. We will boldly obey what God calls us to do, walking through doors that only He can open.   Join me for your daily dose of faith, honesty, and prayer.   Learn -> https://shehears.org Connect -> rachael@shehears.org Community-> https://www.facebook.com/groups/743928930315696/ Instagram-> https://www.instagram.com/she_hears/       Need to chat one on one? Women often deal with feelings of insecurity and unworthiness, yet the lives of these women show that Jesus values us, wants a relationship with us, and can use us to further His kingdom. In her warm, conversational style, Rachael ties together her life experience, knowledge of the Scriptures, and her compassion for women to encourage us and enable us to become the women God has called us to be.     Learn more about your ad choices. Hey friends, welcome back to the Hearing Jesus podcast. I'm your host, Rachel Grohl. Today, I need to be honest,

0:09.0

I sat down to record the next week's worth of episodes, and I am in a headspace that it's proving to be a little difficult.

0:19.0

And I felt like I should probably just record about what I'm

0:22.4

going through right now because one of the things that I think I hope to always bring to the

0:27.6

table is vulnerability and honesty. And it kind of felt dishonest to just keep going as if nothing

0:34.8

can happen when I'm in a space that's really impacting my life. And I think that

0:40.3

this time of year, it's probably affecting a lot of you. And so today I just want to talk a little

0:45.7

bit about grief and not even necessarily the grief over a death, but grief over a loss. And

0:54.1

and the reason why I say that is this is the time

0:56.9

of year where we, if you're a parent, do a lot of sending off. And whether that is a kindergartner

1:05.3

or a preschooler going to school for the first time, or a parent sending a child to the military, or for us, it was sending

1:13.6

my first daughter to college. I think it's something that we don't talk about a lot. And I've

1:20.8

talked about grief before, but one of the things I notice about grief, and even if it's a grief

1:25.8

over somebody that you were incredibly close to,

1:28.6

there seems to be like a socially acceptable amount of time that you're allowed to grieve or even a

1:35.1

certain way that you're expected to grieve. And if you go outside those norms, then it's really

1:41.3

difficult. People don't know what to do with it.

1:49.6

And I don't even, I say the term norms very loosely because I don't think it's normal.

1:54.5

I don't think it's normal to be grieving and to just pretend like everything's fine.

1:57.2

I don't think it's normal to be grieving and just stuff it down.

2:03.8

I think the more normal thing would be the way that God created us to do is actually grieve, to actually mourn. And so I thought it might be helpful to share a little bit of my experience

2:10.4

and some of the scriptures that are really helping me in case you're in this similar place. And I think
