John's writing is intended to help readers believe in Jesus as the Messiah. The themes of belief, light versus dark, and eternal life are central to John's message. John emphasizes the importance of relationship and intimacy with Jesus. The Gospel is structured into four major sections: prologue, book of signs, book of glory, and epilogue. John's account is a response to the early church's challenges and false teachings. The language in John is simple but conveys deep theological truths. Recognizing God's voice is a key focus of this study. The invitation to believe in Jesus is timeless and relevant today. Practical application and spiritual growth are essential for understanding the Gospel. Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

0:13.1

Friends, today we are starting a brand new series on the Gospel of John.

0:18.4

If you've been with me for a while, you'll know that in the fall we usually do a

0:22.1

gospel. And perhaps you were thinking we would be in Luke this year, because we've done Matthew, Mark,

0:28.3

and it just seems natural that Luke would be the next one. Well, Luke and the book of Acts were

0:33.7

actually written to be one book. Luke is part one and Axes part two. And so I decided to

0:40.3

bump John before Luke because then eventually I can do Luke and Acts together. You may be wondering

0:47.9

why there are even four Gospels instead of just one. You might have noticed that while all of these books tell the story of Jesus,

0:57.3

John is a little bit different.

0:58.9

It feels different.

1:00.2

It's a little bit more poetic.

1:01.6

It's a little bit more personal.

1:03.4

We reflect a lot more in the book of John.

1:06.8

John doesn't just give us a chronological list of what Jesus did. He gives us insight into who Jesus is.

1:15.6

This gospel isn't just about the events of the life of Jesus. It's about the meaning behind those events, the why behind the miracles, the who behind the signs, the how behind the invitation to believe.

1:29.5

And maybe that's where you're at right now.

1:32.3

Maybe you've been walking with Jesus for a while, but something inside of you knows that there's more.

1:38.2

You don't want to just know about him.

1:40.4

You want to know him.

1:42.0

You want to hear his voice more clearly.

1:45.8

You want to be certain that when he is speaking, it's really him. If that's you, you're in the right place. I think the timing of the

1:53.5

gospel of John is really important because we've just come out of a series about my new book
