other day I was out with a friend who has really fixed beliefs and opinions and I noticed

the sense of resistance within me as our conversation progressed. I've been reading the heart

awaken our true self not merely to add to our storehouse of knowledge. Now although

my friend isn't a Buddhist teacher, in that moment he was a teacher and life was teaching

me a lesson about who I am, where am I narrow and my thinking, and what was the root of

the resistance I was experiencing. When we can learn to engage with our resistance, we're

also learning to find ways to communicate with compassion and skill and mindfulness and

meditation help us to broaden our view, finding that teacher and everyone. For the past

two years I've had the honor of hosting a quarterly mindfulness workshop in the same

mindfulness training I did. The topic I chose for this particular group was remembering

ease and our time together was spent reflecting on the things that take us out of our

ease state. So towards the end of the class I left it open for questions and this woman
