Perhaps the most-asked question in the whole Church is, "How do I recognize when the Spirit is speaking to me?" Early members of the Church had the same question and, as we study sections 46-48 this week, wee study the Lord's revelation of true spiritual manifestations or "gifts" He gives to indicate when the Spirit is present. 0:23.5	and we are back this week studying for the week of May 3rd through 9th in Doctrine and Covenants,
0:30.1	sections 46 through 48. Now last week we studied one big section, section 45. This week, 46, 47, and 48 are shorter sections, but sections that build upon what we talked about last week.
0:44.3	Yeah, last week, the focus was on the external pressures church members were facing and the difficulty they had in embracing their faith.
0:53.3	And of course, most importantly, examining
0:56.0	ourselves and our own external pressures and our own efforts to embrace the faith.
1:01.0	This week we're looking at internal stresses and pressures.
1:04.0	What's going on inside the church and inside individual members, and what's going on inside of us that sometimes makes it difficult
1:12.7	to identify God's presence and recognize when he's speaking to us. So just to give a little bit of
1:20.5	background, a lot of these sections come in really short succession. This is one of the most
1:27.1	intense periods of revelation
1:28.6	in church history. It's right as Joseph Smith and other members of the church from New York
1:33.2	are gathering in Curtin, Ohio, meeting with the new converts that are there. And there's a lot of
1:38.7	questions that prompt a lot of revelations. One of the questions that's being asked in 1831 is this revelation is received is,
1:51.0	what does it look like or what does it feel like when the Spirit of God is present?
1:58.0	Now there's a pretty common practice in America at this time with Christians
2:05.9	who, when they feel under the direction of the spirit, will manifest that spiritual influence
2:13.5	in a lot of pretty exuberant, loud, and somewhat confusing ways. Just to give you an example,
2:21.9	Levi Hancock, who's an early convert to the church, meets a couple of elders of the church,
2:28.6	and he describes what they do when they are under the direction of the spirit.
