Summary

When the Saints got to Nauvoo it was a mosquito-infested swamp. Through the Lord's grace and their hard work they were able to transform it into something "beautiful". Just like they had with Zion. Just like they would with Salt Lake City. Just like the Lord did with the Prophet Joseph Smith himself. Just like the Lord does with us. Study with us in this episode to ask yourself how to work with the Lord to make something beautiful. And here we are in January of 1841, so almost two full years later.

1:07.4

So do you think that's because they, are there other revelations out of order from this?

1:13.4

No, there's other, there's other revelations. The doctrine of covenants doesn't contain everything

1:18.2

that came to, Joseph Smith, everything that he wrote. But in this two-year time span, things are

1:24.9

just kind of crazy. So Joseph and other church leaders that are with

1:28.3

them in Liberty get out of Liberty jail in April of 1839. But there's no home. The saints in Missouri

1:35.7

were, they had to leave their homes in far west and other places while Joseph's in jail. So in the

1:42.1

middle of that winter, they're leaving the whole state of Missouri, walking backwards.

1:47.5

They walk into Illinois, the people in Quincy, Illinois, let them stay there temporarily,

1:52.0

but then ask them to move on.

1:55.0

And so they find this kind of backwaters-backwaters-ee, backwaters-y, backwatering.

2:01.0

That's a word you just made up.
