Hi, this is Janet Lansfury.

0:14.5

Welcome to Unruffled.

0:16.1

Today I'm going to respond to notes I received from three different families who all are asking,

0:22.6

how can I say it? How can I tell this to my child? In one case, it's about a new relationship

0:30.7

that this parent is in after being separated from her child's father. Another one is about

0:37.0

setting a limit that a child isn't accepting. And they keep

0:41.2

asking and asking and asking after we've given our answer. And the third one is about these parents'

0:48.2

choice to move out of a neighborhood where their children have been settled for their whole life and have friends,

0:57.0

and there's obviously going to be feelings involved. So those are the three topics I'm going to

1:02.4

be specifically talking about, but this advice I'm offering applies to anything that we

1:08.9

want to talk to children about. It's also the way to talk to them

1:13.8

1:29.9

but they deserve the same human respect in communication. And you'll find that's what they

1:36.9

respond to best. And I'm going to explain what I mean by that in a moment. So I'm going to start

1:44.0

off with the first note, and then I'll talk about the really simple. So I'm going to start off with the first note, and then I'll talk

1:46.0

about the really simple advice that I'm going to offer. The first one, thank you so much for all

1:51.2

the wonderful content. My daughter is six, and your podcast and articles have helped me so much

1:55.3

over the years. My daughter's dad and I have been separated for three years and co-parent 50-50. I'm in my first relationship

2:03.3

since the separation, and I'm wondering when and how to introduce my daughter to my partner.
