Now, our second area where people get stuck, the second mind pit is what we call treading water.

And treading water, I use this analogy, because I'll never forget when I was 15, we had swimming classes as part of our physical education.

And part of it is we had to bring a big jacket and a beanie and big, you know, what are they called?

Tracksuit pants and sneakers and jump in the water.

And we had to spend 60 minutes just treading water,

staying in the same spot.

And the reason why I think this is a great analogy is,

when you're in this pit, you are exhausting yourself,

keeping your head above water, but you're actually not making progress.

You're not making any meaningful progress, just like if you're in a pool, the goal is to actually

just stay on the same spot. You're not getting to a destination. So this pit is for people who tend to keep starting things and they never finish.

They sign up for that wonderful professional development course and then they stop after the first lesson. They buy another self-help book and they get into the first chapter and they don't finish it.

They have all of these half-completed goals and they keep switching between them.

And there's again a few reasons for this.

One of them is that when we've started something, the beginning is fun. We get a shot of dopamine.

The end is fun.

We get a shot of dopamine.

The middle bit is where we get bored because we don't have this dopamine hit that's keeping us going.

We have this almost dopamine deficiency.

And because we live in a society where we crave that so much and technology has done this to us, it's terrible.

We get bored and then we see that boredom as a sign, okay, well, maybe this isn't what I should
