Perry Williams, stunned and bewildered.

Yesterday sat in the apartment he had held for four months

while he waited the return of his wife, whose body was found Wednesday, battered and stuffed into a trunk.

He admitted that he had no idea where his future home would be.

It wasn't a man's apartment that he had. Things were too dainty.

There were pink draperies over the windows and a pink spread on the bed. The dishes

were washed and dried and placed neatly in the cabinet. And two, a vanity dresser was decorated

with bottles of perfume and cologne, bobby pins and bath salts and combs and mirrors. It was Mildred's apartment. Things were arranged

just as she had left them that morning to go to work. Perry had moved across town, but there was an

indelible print on his mind of how she had placed each item on the vanity, how she had arranged her clothes in the closet.

Perry knew all this, and when he packed a move, he placed Mildred's belongings along with his.

All of her perfume and her little knick-knacks, which make women more beautiful, were placed with care into a box.

When he arrived at his new address, he took them one by one and placed them on a vanity in the closet, just as Mildred had placed them.

Perry told his friends that she's just gone off on a trip, she'll be back someday. and so he had fixed things just for her the

apartment was an invitation for her to come back if she did come back she would not

have to wash the breakfast dishes nor tidy up the apartment she wouldn't have

to take down mannish curtains and put up

pink draperies that she liked so well. The bed didn't need making either. There was her

picture on the living room table. It was a picture of her with a broad smile on her face.

It seemed to greet all who came to visit Perry. Perry had many friends,

and they all would remark after visiting his apartment that things looked just as though he was
