The body was first discovered by Mr. E.L. Harper Jr. of Cincinnati.

Mr. Harper is visiting Dayton and is temporarily residing at 875 North Main Street.

He visited Phillips's bathhouse yesterday afternoon for the

purpose of a swim in the Great Miami River. He had not been in the water more than 20 minutes

when his attention was attracted by his shoe floating down the stream. A closer inspection led to the

horrifying discovery that the shoe was on a

foot, which was part of a bloated body of a Wormon floater. Mr. Harper at once notified the

proprietor of the bathhouse, who rode out to the corpse and fastened a rope to the dress, and then paddled back to the shore

towing the body, which was anchored below the bathing place.

Police headquarters were at once notified and the patrol wagon with Chief Farrell, officers

Mike Sell, and Hauser.

Dr. Fred Weaver and several newspaper reporters left for the scene of the tragic discovery.

The stretchers carried by the patrol wagon were placed in the water and the body drawn out over them.

It was then placed in the patrol wagon conveyed to the undertaking establishment of Boyer on West Third Street.

The body was then examined by Dr. Weaver with a view to ascertaining if there were any wounds

or bruises on it. From an external examination, none were discovered. The body was in a bad

state of decomposition. It was swollen terribly, so much so

that the clothing was nearly bursting. The dress was in one piece, waist, and skirt, and was of a

brownish color. It was tied up about the neck of the corpse and had to be cut off. There was no underskirt,

the only other articles of clothing on the body being the underclothing, a corset, black stockings,

and buttoned shoes. The latter had the firm name of Dyers and Tanner printed on the inside.
