And today I'm joined by associate editor Dominic Nichols, associate comment editor Francis Dernley, our regular reporter Colin Freeman and our Italy correspondent Nick Squires.

Dom, I'd like to start with you. Could you talk us through the main updates in the military space from the last 24 hours?

Hi Claire, hi everybody. The main bits and pieces from the battlefield in the last 24 hours is the referendum in these in the four areas of Ukraine, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaparizia.

And Kelson or Blasts are underway. I will talk about those in a little while.

And then we've also seen the continued rolling out of the mobilization, Putin's mobilization plan, which has got off to a quick start.

But mainly in the areas outside of the main urban centres, outside of Moscow and some Peasburgs certainly, which has not gone down well.

There's been quite a bit of footage on social media of people protesting in these areas.

But I should just say I've just come out of a background brief with Western officials.

So I'll just give a quick update on what they're saying about the from the ground.

So in Kelson down to the south is the Ukrainian counteroffensive down there.

They're saying Western officials are saying that there are several Ukrainian brigades involved in that.

They are making moderate gains and pressurising the Russian force, which has cut off their north and west of the Donetsk pro river.

The Western officials make it clear that this, I mean the river there is massive, a thousand metres wide.
