Cat calls and jeers rise above a sea of twisted faces.

Drums are banged to an ominous rhythm.

The men and women who have come out into the streets jostle and push.

Scuffles break out and tempers fray. The atmosphere crackles with danger. Something big is happening

in England and these folk feel a primal urge to be a part of it.

What's happening is that the tyrannical rule of the Plantagenet King Edward II and his brutal henchman Hugh dispenser the younger is being

shaken to its foundations.

It's autumn 1326 and for five years these two have been the figure heads of a vicious

and oppressive regime.

Together they've plundered the country and destroyed all political norms. Scores, even hundreds of political enemies have been killed or imprisoned.

Now for the first time the regime is under attack.

In recent months Edward has lost control of his family and of events.
