I didn't have to come up with more lies the questions I didn't

want to answer. Part of me hoped she would leave but I couldn't tell her that. I couldn't treat her that way. Pick a reason,

I wonder why Ryan said it this way. It doesn't entirely seem to fit the context of what was happening at the moment. It felt more like something he needed to say.
