Summary

This episode is dedicated to all fans of the imperfect subjunctive… and to those of you who are terrified of it! After listening to Mark and Alba’s discussion about all things hypothetical, you’ll be 100% confident in using the Spanish imperfect subjunctive. In addition, Alba talks about her favourite parts of Madrid, and José introduces some ways to express surprise in the intermedio. Please note that lesson 17 of Season 3 was originally known as lesson 317 of Coffee Break Spanish. We have renumbered the lessons of each season as lessons 1-40 to make things more simple for our listeners.

0:54.0	Un poco. Vamos a empezar.
1:04.0	Bueno, el imperfecto del subjuntivo es un tema bastante complicado.
1:08.0	Y la verdad es que en este episodio vamos a utilizar tres preguntas para practicar el uso del imperfecto del subjuntivo.
1:18.0	En inglés diríamos,
1:21.0	if something were to happen, what would we do?
1:26.0	Y entonces estamos hablando de situaciones hipotéticas.
1:30.0	Y en español tenemos que utilizar el imperfecto del subjuntivo para la primera parte de la frase
1:39.0	y luego para la segunda parte utilizamos el condicional.
1:45.0	Es decir, que a ver en español para hablar de una frase hipotética, de una idea hipotética,
1:52.0	algo que podría pasar, tenemos que utilizar tres elementos.
1:57.0	El primer elemento es el sí que empieza la frase.
2:03.0	El segundo elemento es el imperfecto del subjuntivo y el tercer elemento es el condicional.
2:11.0	Exacto. Sin embargo, creo que la mejor manera de ayudaros con este punto gramatical es daros algunos ejemplos.
