Summary

Recorded 3/18/19: I sit down with Washington Nationals closer Sean Doolittle to discuss, among other things, his early days as a Babe Ruth style 2-way player, misconceptions about minor league life, and how baseball's labor issues are part of the bigger labor landscape in America.

Hey everybody, welcome back to the 12-6 podcast. I'm your host Colin McHugh. Thank you so much for

0:13.7

tuning in. If you haven't heard all the previous conversations we've had, I suggest going back

0:18.3

after we're done here and checking them out because we've had some

0:20.9

fantastic guests on this year. We had Garrett Cole, All-Star starting pitcher for the Houston

0:26.0

Astros. We had New York Times best-selling author Jeff Passon and All-Star Third Baseman

0:31.5

and budding entrepreneur Alex Bregman. Today's guest is, in my opinion, one of the funniest

0:37.2

and brightest guys in the

0:38.4

league, Washington Nationals pitcher Sean Doolittle. The work he and his wife Aaron have done in their time

0:44.3

in Oakland and now in Washington was super inspiring to me. So I've been secretly following him for

0:49.8

years on social media. You know, we got to be Twitter friends recently, but this was the first

0:54.1

time we got to actually sit down and meet in person. He's super funny, quirky, and extremely

0:59.8

insightful on topics ranging from labor rights to taking care of our veterans at home to Star Wars

1:05.1

trivia. He and his wife are currently supporting an organization called Operation Finally Home

1:10.0

based in New Bronfels, Texas.

1:12.3

Their mission is to build brand new homes for returning veterans, giving them a home and a place

1:17.1

to start transitioning from military back to civilian life. It allows them to go from serving their

1:22.1

country to serving their communities as seamlessly as possible. Their stories are amazing, and you can find out more at Operation Finally Home.org.

1:31.4

Today on the podcast, we talk about Sean's legendary transition from power hitter to All-Star Reliever,

1:37.0

how respecting the game is changing in 2019, and which Star Wars movie is best.

1:42.8

As always, if you're not subscribed to the podcast,

1:45.0

make sure you do that so that you're all caught up when new episodes air.
