Summary

The Seahawks participated in a lively joint practice with the Green Bay Packers. I didn't make the trip, but Seattle Times beat writer Bob Condotta did. He joins the show to tell us what happened.

Hello, everybody. Welcome to another episode of Hawk Blogger Mornings. I am Brian

Niemhauser, and it is not the morning. And this is a practice report, but it's not my practice

0:17.6

report. I did not make the trip over to Green Bay, but the man the myth,

0:24.8

Bob Condota of the Seattle Times, he did. I'm not sure he had the choice of whether he was

0:30.6

going to do it or not, but he's there. Bob, how are you doing, man?

0:35.7

Not too bad. Yeah, I like Green Bay okay. So, so yeah, it's kind of growing on me. I think this is like the ninth time we've been here since I took over the V in 2013, believe it or not, between playoff games and preseason games and all that. So, yeah, it's not so bad. Yeah, you know, I think Green Bay this time of year especially is super underrated. There's a, like, there's a pretty fun, like, area around the stadium around Lambeau Field and some good bars and stuff like that. Yeah, well, and it's really growing. And in fact, I could show you real fast. Yeah, yeah. That's how close I am to Lambo Field. It's just, it's just like a thousand yards, I mean, a thousand feet away to like that main gate there. And this is, and this is a brand new, like, three-story establishment here. And, and I just came, I just walked here, like, five minutes from where the practice field was and all that. So, yeah, they're really building up the area around here.

1:29.2

They're trying to make this like a 24-7, 365 kind of destination

1:33.6

and not just simply for the Packer Games.

1:37.0

But, yeah, so for Packer Games, for sure, this is a fun area.

1:41.4

Well, I mean, that seems to be the new financial model

1:44.0

for a lot of the NFL teams,

1:45.8

trying to build like an entire mini city around their stadium to just have it be a real district.

1:52.9

The real important question, Bob, and the hard-hitting one I got to start with, is did you ride a

1:57.9

kid's bike over to this bar?

2:05.0

Yeah. Yeah, I did not. But yeah, it was fun watching those guys do that for sure. That's kind of one of the traditions here that sort of

2:09.9

dates back to somewhere in the in the mid to late 50s. And yeah, and you do get a feel for,

2:14.9

I've been here for games before and I knew where their practice field was, but I'd never, you know, seen a practice here. So it does, it makes a lot more sense when you kind of see it in that light, that they, you know, the practice field is basically across the street from Lambeau Field. And so they, yeah, the, the locker rooms are in Lambo Field and kind of up, there's a tiny bit of a hill there. And so it kind of started with that that the kids would offer bikes to dudes to kind of go down the hill a little bit and get to practice that way. So I'd say about a third of the Seahawks maybe did that. They also offer golf carts and stuff like that. So some of the guys took golf carts. Devin Witherspoon I saw was driving about half the secondary in one golf cart. And some guys just walked. Some guys just walked it. There was a bunch of fans line in each side. And guys were signing autographs and taking pictures and stuff like that. So yeah, so it was kind of a fun way to enter practice. It probably gets a little old if you have to do it every single day. Maybe like the Packers do,

3:10.5

but certainly I think the Seahawks liked it doing it once for sure. The image of Devin Witherspoon

3:16.1

behind the wheel of a golf cart gives me Marshawn Lynch at Cal vibes. Was he driving that thing straight? It wasn't quite that, but it was noticeable. You know,

3:28.5

you always hear Witherspoon basically anywhere and wherever he is. And he definitely, he, I can't

3:34.0

remember exactly what it was, he said, but he did say something like, you know, hey, I'm coming

3:38.4

through or something like that, you know, made he made he made it clear that he was
