Steeler head coach hiring cycle right now. And I want to buzz through each one of the names that's been reported

that they will talk to. And I want to preface that by a couple things. First off, only one of

the candidates that's been announced as of dinner time on Thursday is an offensive-minded

background. And I don't love that.

I hope they're not just saying,

we've had success with three coaches in a row

that have a defense slash special teams,

whatever background,

so that's the only way to do it.

I hope they're not taking that approach.

I also don't think that there is a Ben Johnson

offensive mind that everyone thinks is above the rest.

So this group of coaches that's getting interviewed for nine, now eight with Harbaugh and New York, is mostly defensive guys.

I would prefer to go offense, all things being equal. I don't think they tend to agree

to me, but I'm not just 100% certain how they view that. But I do think it's noteworthy that

there are eight teams still alive in the playoffs, and four of them have offensive background head coaches and four have

defensive background head coaches so it's not a deal breaker now if you have a defensive minded

head coach they're going to have to be really good with offensive coordinator hirings and if

things go well you're going to lose that guy. But these are good problems to have, too.
