War Powers Act is pertinent at this moment is that I believe it is deliberately constructed so that it

applies to just the instance we're dealing with. I read from Wikipedia.

The War Powers Resolution requires the President to notify

Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and

forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period

without congressional authorization for use of military force or a declaration of war by the United

States.

The senators understand what the background is,

but they say that Congress must carefully deliberate

before authorizing offensive military action.

That is the critical word offensive.

Not defensive, not defending the US Navy under attack,

but launching missiles against sites in Yemen, a sovereign territory that are meant

to be offensive to intimidate the Houthis and their Iranian colleagues.

I understand this has been debated for many years, depending upon the military action,

but it is a stretch to say that the US Navy launching

those missiles is defensive because what's being fired upon is commercial shipping, not
