They say in Ireland and around the world, people come together to celebrate the religious and cultural holiday every year on March 17th, known as St. Patrick's Day.

Here's a couple facts. Maybe you did not know about the holiday today.

First and foremost, St. Patrick was actually British.

I thought he was Italian.

So many different theories. Why did you think he was Italian? Italian? So many different theories.

Why did you think he was Italian?

It's me, Saint-Patrick.

I know he wasn't Irish, but I thought he was Italian, then moved to Ireland.

Although he's one of Ireland's most celebrated figures, Patrick was born around the year 390 in Britain, likely in what is now Scotland.

Though there's a debate as to whether it was there versus modern day England or Wales, to a family with Roman citizenship.

Okay. So his parents... Okay. There was a kid in my school that was Italian. Every year he wore shirts at St. Patrick's Italian.

Okay. Apparently I took it to heart. He was kidnapped and enslaved at the age of 16 and brought over to Ireland.

He then escaped a monastery where he converted to Christianity, and that's where he became a priest and then eventually a bishop.

He returned to Ireland in 432 as a missionary, and he played a major role in converting the Irish to Christianity.

After his death, he was named Ireland's patron saint. His actual name was Maywin Sucket.

How was his given name? He changed his name to Patrick when he became a bishop, hopefully, to make it a little bit easier.
