Smarter News. Well, hi, everybody. Welcome to Scoop, where you get the scoop on this week's news.

It is Monday, August 18th,

2025. And we are, again, witnessing a historic event together with a big question about where

this story will lead. So on this day, we're waiting at the White House a meeting between President

Trump and President Zelensky of Ukraine. This is coming after the summit that took

place between President Putin and President Trump on Friday. We have a whole group of European

leaders that have already arrived at the White House. And it's our understanding that the order

of the meeting is going to look a little something like this, although we don't know completely

that President Trump and President Zelensky are going to have their sort of meeting, and then the meeting with the European leaders is going to happen after that. And there's a question about whether or not how these things are going to overlap and who else is going to be present as well. We're going to spend the bulk of our time talking about this. We have a great guest, one of our favorites here at Smarter News, David Satter, a journalist who spent many decades in Russia,

witnessed the fall of the Soviet Union, became the first American journalist expelled from Russia since the end of the Cold War not too long ago.

Reads and speaks Russian, still has great sources, and he's going to provide

some insight that you're not going to get anywhere else because what we tend to do on the news

during these sort of news cycles, we get as many voices as possible because nobody really knows

anything. We don't really know what's going to happen next. So then your time is just filled

with the clutter of a lot of

different opinion, but not necessarily people that have insight. So I wanted to make sure we had a

guess that had actual insight. So that's going to be where we're going to spend the bulk of our time.

Just real quick here on a couple other news items that we've been watching and keeping an eye on,

just so you know what's going to be happening this week. Remember, Congress is still back in their districts. They're still working at

home. So they're not in Washington, D.C., so we're not watching major legislation passed. We're not

seeing a lot of lawmakers back in front of cameras in Washington, D.C., because they're all home until
