But first, the diatribe.

Broadly speaking, there are three reasons that Theists engage atheists.

The least common in my experience is that they genuinely want to understand other world views and use the opinions of others to help them critically examine their own.

I still haven't come across this type, but I'm told they're out there.

Far more common are the ones that want to convince you that you're wrong.

They want to offer the positive case for theism either because they're concerned about the fate of your soul, or because they think the world would just be better off if everybody except the glory of God.

These are people that are in it for the same basic reason that most atheists engage theists.
